The GSA Pro is our bi-annual professional networking event that offers students an opportunity to ask questions and network with a panel of industry representatives. 

6 speakers from different companies are invited to share their experiences and inspire business school students to apply their knowledge and skills towards bringing a positive change in the business world.

6:35 pm: Opening Address by Samuel Ho, President of GSA

6:40 pm: Keynote Speaker: Prof. Mark Uncles, Deputy Dean of UNSW Business School

6:50 pm: Panel Speakers are each invited to introduce themselves and share their experience in their respective careers (approx. 5 mins each). 

7:30 pm: Q&A session, where our moderators will direct questions at the panel of speakers. 

8:00 pm: The panel will be open to questions from the audience. 

8:15 pm onwards: Open networking session with the students and refreshments will be served.

Festival of India

Dance Performance

GSA team members will share their enthusiasm and support to the India community by dancing on Indian songs. We’ll encourage students to dance with us and learn to shake on Bollywood music. A fun way to introduce various kinds of Indian music and dance forms.

 

GSA Photo Booth (Bringing India to UNSW)

GSA will set up a photo booth with cultural props such as traditional Indian wear,ornaments/accessories – dupatta (scarves), turbans, bindis, bangles, fake moustaches etc. with Indian monuments and places picturized in the back drop. Students can get their pictures clicked and sent to their email IDs.

 

Taste of India

GSA will bring to the table a flavor of India, by demonstrating how to make Indian snacks and drinks during the festival by encouraging students to create their own delicacy on the spot to get a hands on experience in cooking and tasting. The menu consists of Chaat, lassi (buttermilk) and flavored water (jaljeera), Bhel Puri etc.

The UNSW Graduate Student Association proudly presents our flagship professional development event, GSA Insider 2017. We offer our postgraduate students the opportunity to experience an intimate networking opportunity over a two-course dinner with 20 senior executives, and gain industry and career insights on a more personal level.

Attendees will be allocated to dine with their preferred industry representatives, rotating in-between two courses. At the end of the formal dinner, an open networking session will begin, allowing students to network with all professionals in attendance.

We know that midsemester exams and assignments are coming up but take a break afterwards and come on an adventure with us! You will have relaxed with our Chill the Stress Out Event and now you can completely unwind with our next event.

The program matches current and successful postgraduate students (Mentors) with the new postgraduate students (Mentees) in the UNSW Business School. The program consists of One-to-One meet ups and group meetings in addition to online correspondence.

Peer mentoring is a relationship building journey. There are many positive benefits to both the Mentors and Mentees. Some of the benefits associated with participating in the program are the opportunity to:

  • develop self-awareness and enrich personal development;
  • improve communication and interpersonal skills;
  • build lifelong friendships;
  • make your transition to UNSW one of ease and joy; and
  • build your network!

Every Mentee is assigned a mentor who will help them with the transition process and will be your buddy to answer all your questions. There will be a day schedule later in the semester - 3M day - which is an interactive and social day out which will include games, social interaction, snacks and a lot of fun!

The program runs in Semester 1 and Semester 2; and starts in O-Week and ends in Week 9 for both semesters.

Are you interested in finding out what it’s really like to work in business?  Then this is the program for you.

The UNSW Business School Career Mentoring Program connects Business School students with Alumni who are successful business professionals from the public and private sectors.

This program is a great opportunity for you to gain advice and support in developing your career. Some of the benefits include:

  • Gain insight into the reality of the business world
  • Learn from and be guided by an experienced business professional
  • Reflect on your career goals and future ambitions
  • Build your professional network and make new contacts

We are now hiring for a the following Executive Council positions for Semester 2, 2016. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend the Election Day where they will be elected by the Members of the society.

If you have a passion to take GSA to the next level while at the same time learning and gaining extracurricular experience, then we invite you to challenge yourself and apply today.

The Executive Council positions that are available are:

  1. President;
  2. Vice President of Internal Operations;
  3. Vice President of Social Activities;
  4. Vice President of Professional Development;
  5. Secretary; and
  6. Treasurer.

Duties of the following Executive positions shall include but not limited to:

President

  • To chair all club, Committee, General and Annual General Meetings (held during their term) of the club or society;
  • Responsible for general operation, direction and leadership of GSA at all levels (high and low), advancing GSA interests and ensuring growth of the association and identifying potential problems and opportunities.
  • To report to the Associate Dean of Postgraduate Studies.
  • To have a thorough knowledge of the club’s or society’s Constitution;
  • To plan the coming year’s activities in coordination with Vice Presidents;
  • To act as official spokesperson for the club;
  • To liaise with fellow office bearers;
  • To acquaint each committee member with their function, responsibility, duties and maintain personal contact with them;
  • To liaise with Arc and departments of the University where necessary; and
  • To ensure that an “Application for Affiliation” form accompanied by the minutes of the most recent Annual General Meeting and an updated membership list is submitted to Arc.

Vice President of Internal Operations

  • In the absence of the president, to chair all club, Committee, General and Annual General Meetings (held during their term) of the society;
  • To ensure effective flow of information among Executive Committee and ensure that tasks are delivered on time to support GSA events;
  • To supervise the Marketing, IT, Logistics and Human Resource Managers;
  • To oversee the maintenance of the property and equipment of GSA;
  • To have a thorough knowledge of the society’s constitution;
  • To ensure that motions made at any Meeting of the society are reflective of the constitution; and,
  • To assist the President in their duties wherever practical.

Vice President of Social Activities

  • To plan and organise the social activities and allocate tasks to the entire team;
  • To have a thorough knowledge of the society’s constitution;
  • To ensure that motions made at any Meeting of the society are reflective of the constitution; and,
  • To assist the President in their duties wherever practical.

Vice President of Professional Development

  • To plan and organise the professional development activities and allocate tasks to the entire team;
  • To have a thorough knowledge of the society’s constitution; and,
  • To ensure that motions made at any Meeting of the society are reflective of the constitution; and,
  • To assist the President in their duties wherever practical.

Secretary

  • To be responsible for receiving and replying to all correspondence on behalf of the club;
  • To organise meetings, agendas (in consultation with the President), and minutes;
  • To keep relevant club papers in order;
  • To coordinate elections; and
  • To maintain the membership database in coordination with HR Manager, updating when changes are made.
    To act as Arc Delegate for GSA, including the following duties:
  • To be aware of the Arc funding system, it’s requirements and its possibilities for the club;
  • To communicate with the Executive before and after each Arc Clubs General Meeting to pass on information (about grants etc);
  • To liaise with Arc and the club’s Executive; and
  • To have a good working knowledge of Arc forms.

Treasurer

  • To keep and maintain all club financial records and prepare budget for allocation of GSA funds on a monthly basis;
  • To prepare a year-end Balance Sheet and Statement of Income to the Executive Council;
  • To keep the club informed of its financial position (at meetings, through regular e-mail/forum reports, or regular newsletter;
  • To carry out financial transactions as directed by the club management;
  • To not put the club in debt that cannot be repaid, but should endeavour to match costs and income as closely as possible; and
  • To ensure that club funds are not misused at any time.

Are you interested in a career in investment banking or management consulting?

On Wednesday 2 March 2016 UNSW Careers and Employment will host an Investment Banking and Consulting Evening where you can meet top employers in these industries, all together, right here on campus .

This event will give you the opportunity to ask questions, compare different employers, get a real understanding of whether investment banking or consulting is the right career path for you and most importantly, to build your networks. These highly competitive industries are looking for students with:

  • Strong academic results
  • Leadership attributes
  • Excellent communication skills (international students need an IELTS of 7-8 to comply with the new government regulations for Permanent Residency)
  • Active participation in extracurricular activities

If you will be in your penultimate or final year in 2016, have a WAM of credit or higher and are considering a career in Consulting, Investment Banking or Banking then this is the event you need to apply for in 2016.  All applications will be assessed based on WAM, participation in life on campus and community involvement.  Each year approximately 175 students are invited to attend the Investment Banking and Consulting Event.

Applications close 15 February 2016.

O-week 2016

Whether you are a new student to UNSW or a current student, there is no better way to begin the semester than to be at Orientation Week!

A week not to be missed with countless stalls, freebies, activities and so much more, O-Week is a week of social and academic activities designed to help you transition to your new home as you begin your academic journey at the UNSW Business School. It is a week of opportunity to meet new people, familiarise yourself with the campus, get involved and enjoy the moment.

Semester 1 O-Week is from 22 - 26 February.

The Official Welcome for the new postgraduate Business School students will be on Thursday 25 February, 4:30pm - 8pm, Mathews Theatre A. Visit the Orientation page for more info.
